Its large scale of operations increases Toll Brothers bargaining power and helps it compete effectively against regional players. However, slowdown in the US housing market has resulted in lower demand for the companys products and has adversely affected its operations (Stabile and Whitten, 2000). The company offers comprehensive services for its customers. The company offers an extensive selection of colors and designs, such as marble and hardwood floors, Corian, granite, and a variety of selections for the homes exterior. The company’s offering of one-stop shopping enables home buyers to make all of their selections, both customization and color selections, in one location. In most of its single-family detached-home communities, the company offer at least four different house floor plans, each with several substantially different architectural styles. During the past year, the company introduced 112 new single-family detached models, 82 new single-family attached models and 81 new condominium models. In the homebuilding industry, consolidation has taken place with the largest builders making significant gains in market share. In 1991, the top ten builders built just 9% of the houses in the US, but by 2001, through a combination of internal growth and acquisition, the number had risen to 18%; in 2003, the number was above 20% (Hassell, Wong, Houser, Knopman and Bernstein, 2003). Homebuilding is an industry where small builders are having increasing difficulty in competing with their larger competitors. Style, Structure and Theme of Beowulf                  A consideration of the stylistic features in the classic poem Beowulf involves a study of the poetic verse, the vocabulary, alliteration, litotes, simile, kennings, variation and double-meaning or ambiguity. A consideration of the structure and the theme of the poem involve a wide diversity of opinion on the subject.  First, let us talk about style. The poetic conventions used by this poet include two half-lines in each verse, separated by a caesura or pause. The half-lines are joined by the oral stressing of alliterative words in the half-lines, both consonants and vowels (Tharaud 34). â€Å"At least one of the two stressed words in the first half-line, and usually both of them, begin with the same sound as the first stressed word of the second half-line†(Donaldson 67). When a word was stressed in the first half-line, its alliterative counterpart was stressed in the following half-line; the words could either complement each other, like holy/heaven or sin/enemy, or they could contrast each other like happy/wretched or warm/winter.  Oft Scyld Scefing                              sceapena preatum monegum maegpum                          meodo-setla ofteah (4-5)  The repetition of the â€Å"s†sound in line 4 and of the â€Å"m†sound in line 5 illustrate alliteration, and this occurs throughout the poem, providing to the listener what the rhyme of modern-day poetry provides – an aesthetic sense of rightness or pleasure.  The vocabulary of the poem is remarkable in several ways. Equal protection and due process clauses Essay
In natural rights philosophy, a limited government is a system restricted to protecting natural rights and that does not interfere with other aspects of life. Learning from the revolution in Great Britain, colonists created this country?s limited government in an attempt to protect their country from abuse of power. Both equal protection of the law and due process of law help limited government in preventing the abuse of power. Due process of law is one of our country?s oldest constitutional principles. Taking a cue from the Magna Carta, it requires that the actions of government be conducted according to the rule of the law. It is the most important protection against arbitrary rule. Government officials were now just as accountable for their actions as anyone else. A police officer, or even the president, were now held to the same standards as the average citizen. By adding due process of law to the constitution in 1791, founders basically shot down the threat of corruption by stating that no government can be above the law. Much like due process of law, Equal protection of the law is another way of safeguarding and regulating the use of power. A requirement of the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, equal protection declares that state laws may not arbitrarily discriminate against persons. Protection of the law means that no group or individual can receive special privileges or be deprived of certain rights under the law. It reiterates the belief that our rights are God-given, and government has no right to deprive us of our unalienable rights. Along with due process of law, equal protection is one of the key principles of American Constitutionalism. In reference to the 14th amendment, Senator Jacob M. Howard, one of the 14th Amendment?s authors, once stated, ?It establishes equality before the law, and it gives, to the humblest, the poorest, the most despised?the same rights and the same protection before the law as it gives to the most powerful, the most wealthy, or the most haughty?. Without this principle of equal justice to all men and equal protection under the shield of the law, there can be no republican government and none that is really worth maintaining. Together, due process and equal protection of law help check and balance the use of power in limited government. They protect our natural rights while at the same time avoiding interference in our lives.
